In a match that will be talked about for generations, Ben Shelton shocked the tennis world by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a record‑setting final set at the US Open. The 13‑11 finish not only secured Shelton’s place in the semi‑finals but also guaranteed an all‑American showdown for the first time since the early 2000s. “I just wanted to stay in the moment and play my game,” Shelton said in the post‑match interview, crediting his coaching team for the tactical adjustments that paid off.
Alcaraz, gracious in defeat, praised Shelton’s resilience, noting that the American’s “never‑give‑up attitude” was the key factor in the upset.
